167 BC – 160 BC
Son of the priest Mattathias who led the Jewish revolt against the Seleucids from roughly 167-160 BC (1 Maccabees 3:1-9). He recaptured Jerusalem and rededicated the temple, and later fell in battle (1 Maccabees 9:18).
