Born a Jew in Tarsus of Cilicia and raised a Pharisee (Acts 22:3), he was met by the risen Christ on the road to Damascus and became an apostle to the Gentiles (Acts 9:1-19). Near the end he wrote that the time of his departure had come and that he had finished the race (2 Timothy 4:6-8).
